Although best known for its research in Diabetes, the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research conducts research in a variety of fields, including immunology, proteomics, functional genomics, gene expression, developmental biology and muscle biology.
Rebecca MacDonald Centre for Arthritis & Autoimmune Disease (Mount Sinai Hospital). The comprehensive Centre integrates clinical patient care with innovative, genetics-based research for rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.
Toronto General Research Institute (University Health Network). The Institute's research program encompasses research in cardiology, transplantation, immunology and autoimmunity, infectious diseases, tissue injury and diabetes. Building upon this work, scientists are able to develop improved methods of treatment and cure. Organ transplants, cardiac pacemakers, novel therapies for endocrine and autoimmune disorders-all are based upon research carried out at the Institute's laboratories and clinics.
