An introductory short list of our members’ facilities, centers and programs associated with specific research areas is given below. Please see Members section for complete listings

Cancer

The Brain Tumour Research Centre (Hospital for Sick Children).  The Centre fosters excellence in brain tumour research, amalgamating the expertise of scientists, clinician investigators, and physicians in a virtual laboratory environment. A stimulating research environment has been created allowing scientists to share ideas, resources and equipment in an atmosphere conducive to achieving excellence in molecular neurooncology research, scientific publications, and translational research.

Cancer Research Program (Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre).  The research studies done range from the basic genetics, biochemistry and biology of cancer, through new experimental treatments, to social factors and quality of life of patients living with cancer.

Fred A. Litwin Centre for Cancer Genetics (Mount Sinai Hospital) The goal of the Centre is to translate the concepts and techniques of molecular oncology into new initiatives in the detection, treatment and prevention of cancer. The main research activities with the Centre include: (1) the molecular genetic basis of inherited and sporadic forms of cancer in human populations and experimental models, (2) the development and application of methodology for early cancer diagnosis, prognosis, therapy, and predisposition to disease based on inherited or acquired genetic traits, (3) the investigation of the psychosocial and ethical impact of DNA-based cancer research.

Ontario Cancer Institute, Advanced Medical Discovery Institute, and The Campbell Family Institute for Breast Cancer Research (University Health Network). Applied molecular oncology: biophysics and bioimaging, cancer genomics and proteomics, epidemiology, statistics and behavioural research, signaling biology, stem cell & developmental biology and clinical studies.

Toronto Ovarian Cancer Research Network (University Health Network).

The Toronto Ovarian Cancer Research Network is a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional group of world-class academic clinicians, clinical researchers and basic scientists who share a passion and dedication to combat ovarian cancer. The focus of the group is to learn more about the mechanisms of ovarian cancer disease processes, including the development and behaviour of the disease, with the goal to improving prevention, early diagnosis, quality of life and life expectancy.
